Marfa

It’s been a fun past few weeks with creative planning for the rest of the year, new projects, and attending the Art Blocks weekend in Marfa, Texas.

Community Contributions

Before the event, I researched the small town of Marfa and got inspired by some stories about the local artists, aliens, lights, and more. That inspiration was all I needed to start creating a few 3D pieces representing my take on those subjects. I included the chromie squiggle colors, local Donald Judd shapes, etc into the art as the recognizable touches—merging the virtual and real world via projections felt like the perfect combo.

Projections

I’ve been thinking a lot about the termDigital Graffiti” lately. With the digital art movement full speed ahead, I’ve discovered some work is best displayed IRL in uncommon ways, such as large projections and screens. This concept felt different enough to bring to Marfa for fun and spark conversation during the weekend.

The idea was pretty simple. Set up the projections between events so attendees could experience the digital art as they walk. Visuals included everything from squiggles to alien vessels and more that connected with the local environment.

This projection was about 30ft w x 20ft h next to the train tracks. Shooting at nighttime is complicated; apologies for the quality : ( Marfa 2023 was my favorite IRL event in years. The event was full of unique humans, art, and good vibes. I’m looking forward to next year and figuring out ways to continue contributing to the community.
